The International Federation of Medical Students' Associations was founded in the year 1951, and is officially recognised by the United Nations as a non-political and non-governmental organisation. Students from all continents and over 50 countries participate in IFMSA's programs. It is IFMSA's purpose to promote international cooperation in professional training and the achievement of humanitarian ideals. IFMSA provides medical students with a forum to address health related concerns and an opportunity to influence the practice and development in medicine.

A personal note:

In August, 2000, the IFMSA, in collaboration with IPSF, held the International Conference on Ageing and Health, in Porto, Portugal. This network is one of the results of that conference. We wish to thank all the wonderful people who worked very hard to make that conference possible.

In March 2001, The International Student Network on Ageing and Health became an offical IFMSA project.

Enjoy ageing!
